SCHOLARSHIPS
In June of 1992, with much foresight and
consideration for the students and teachers of the Bellville and Butler
community, a group of concerned citizens created the Clear Fork Valley
Foundation, a non-profit organization. The Clear Fork Valley Foundation
is classified as a 501(c)(3) corporation. The purpose of the Clear Fork
Valley Foundation is to foster education within the Clear Fork Valley
community and to improve the general well-being of the community with
support from the Clear Fork Valley Foundation. The financial resources
generated are allocated to groups and individuals to improve the schools
and community.
Butler Lions Club Arthur Hathaway Memorial Scholarship
Butler Lions Club Arthur Hathaway Memorial Scholarship awarded for the first time through the foundation in 2003. The recipient must have been involved in extracurricular or community activities and maintain at least a 3.0 average in academic studies. Priority for awarding this scholarhsip goes to a student with a physical impairment.
This year's scholarship was awarded by Harry Bryant to Danielle Wright, who has been active in Spanish, Science, History clubs, model United Nations, Mock Trial, Academic Achievement Club, Academic Letter Club, National Honor Society, tutor in Spanish and Algebra, National Student Leadership Conference, National Society of High School Scholars, taught Vacation Bible School, volunteered at church, and interned at Optometry Clinic. According to a letter written by her doctor, she has been diagnosed with several visual impairments, but with perseverance has overcome these visual challenges, Her impairments still exist, but she is an avid reader and she has aexcellent academic grades. "She is truly a remarkable young woman. Many young people with these visual deficits would have given up and avoided all aspects of reading. She is a perfect role model for all of us." She plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Spanish Education.
